Several top African National Congress leaders and MEC’s in the Western Cape say they are deeply disappointed the ruling party has lost the province to the Democratic Alliance.
The DA swept to victory in last week’s provincial elections, winning over 50% of the votes in the Western Cape.
A beleaguered ANC has become somewhat introspective after losing the province. But ANC Provincial Secretary Mncebisi Skwatsha insists he is not despondent.
“What the ANC needs to do is rebuild its structures and make them stronger,” said Skwatsha.
Education MEC Yusuf Gabru said he was disappointed the ANC had not been given another term to improve on its objectives.
“The ANC should have been given another mandate,” said Gabru.
“All of us should have to be involved in serious introspection about the problems which happened in our province, “said Sport and Cultural Affairs MEC Cameron Dugmore.
The DA will meet on Tuesday to discuss who should be appointed to which portfolio once it takes over the reins in the Western Cape.
