Western Cape premier-in-waiting, Helen Zille, says she will ensure a smooth transition of power when she is sworn in on 6 May.
Zille will succeed Lynne Brown, who has only been in office for over eight months after she suceeded Ebrahim Rasool.
The Democratic Alliance won an outright majority following last week’s elections, booting the ANC from power.
Zille says it is essential the change-over process goes smoothly.
“Well, I have to look at continuity in the city, that is very important. We have to manage that change, we have to ensure that there’s a staff transfer that works very well. We have to ensure that the staff component of the premier’s office is ready.”
Zille says she has also started negotiations with possible coalition partners.
