South Africa’s only medallist at the Beijing Olympics, Khotso Mokoena, came second in the long jump event at an international meeting in Rabat, Morocco, this weekend.
His distance of 8,17m is his best this year.
Mokoena is preparing for the 12th IAAF World Championships which will be held in Berlin in August.
Meanwhile, Ruben Ramolefi finished seventh in the 3000m steeplechase.
Elsewhere, Willem Coertzen set a new South African record in the decathlon at Desenzano del Garda in Italy, with 7907 points. It moves him into seventh on the 2009 international performance list.
