Opposition parties have called on Parliament to investigate the committee that authorises arms deals with overseas countries.
The National Conventional Arms Control Committee is responsible for giving local businesses the green light to sell weapons and ammunition.
The Democratic Alliance is leading the call for arms deals authorised by the NCACC to be investigated.
DA Member of Parliament David Maynier said local businesses have, for the past year, been selling weapons to nations with a questionable track record.
“Libya, Syria and Venezuela. Stop the export of weapons systems or military support equipment if it has not already been delivered,” Maynier said adamently.
Independent Democrats leader Patricia De Lille insists that the arms control body needs to be accountable for its actions.
“If there has been a violation of the acts of Parliament then the NCA needs to account to Parliament about the possible breaches,” she said.
It is believed there are three pending arms deals still to be authorised for South African weapons to be shipped to Iran, Syria and Zimbabwe.
