Pikoli heads to court

Lawyers representing discharged National Prosecuting Authority head Vusi Pikoli said his urgent interim application to stop a successor being appointed will probably be heard on Thursday.

President Jacob Zuma indicated his intensions of naming a new National Director of Public Prosecutions soon.

Pikoli turned to the courts last year after then president Kgalema Motlanthe fired him.

His full application is due to be heard in the North Gauteng High Court in November but Pikoli’s lawyer Aslam Moosajee said he has written to the deputy judge president requesting for the interim application to be heard this week.

We expect that we will be heard on Thursday. I’m waiting for formal notification of this but I have no reason to believe that we will not be accommodated by the deputy judge president,” Moosajee said.
