President Jacob Zuma will meet with the Judicial Service Commission and opposition parties to discuss his nominee for chief justice.

On Thursday he named Sandile Ngcobo as his pick to replace Pius Langa when he retires in October.

Zuma has to consult with parties and the JSC but he did not necessarily need to take their advice.

Constitutional Law expert Pierre de Vos said Ngcobo had the necessary credentials for the job.

“Justice Ngcobo is probably in terms of time service on the Constitutional Court in November will be the longest serving member in the court.”
