Axed prosecutions boss Vusi Pikoli will have three months to prepare for his full application to be reinstated.

Pikoli won an urgent interim application in the North Gauteng High Court on Tuesday. This means President Jacob Zuma cannot name a new National Director of Public Prosecutions until Pikoli’s full application is heard in November.

Opposition parties say Pikoli has been vindicated after he was unfairly dismissed.

The Independent Democrat’s Patricia de Lille said: “They must stop harassing Vusi Pikoli and they must respect his right to turn to the courts. President Jacob Zuma should know that a fair trail includes the right to appeal.”

Meanwhile, the African National Congress’ Brian Sokutu says the ruling party has accepted and respects the ruling.

The president will certainly be complying with that order. He will be studying the order and also getting legal advice on the matter,” Sokutu commented on Tuesday.
