The National Prosecuting Authority says it will refute the allegations made in court on Monday by former police commissioner Jackie Selebi.
In his plea explanation, Selebi accused former NPA heads Bulelani Ngcuka and Vusi Pikoli of being behind a conspiracy against him.
He also claims the two are themselves implicated in corruption.
Selebi alleges Ngcuka tried to solicit a bribe from a lawyer for former Hyundai boss Billy Rautenbach, who is now a state witness in the case.
The former top cop also claims Pikoli’s wife received material gratification in the form of shares from a company affiliated to slain mining boss Brett Kebble.
“We will easily refute the allegations contained in his plea explanation with the witnesses when we lead evidence,” said the NPA’s Mthunzi Mhaga outside court.
