Business as usual for Zanu-PF

Zimbabwe’s Zanu-PF says government business will go ahead without the Movement for Democratic Change.

Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai announced on Friday, his party will no longer work with President Robert Mugabe’s party.

The move was sparked by the arrest of the country’s Agriculture Deputy Minister designate Roy Bennett on terrorism charges on Thursday.

Zanu-PF insists the MDC’s decision to disengage politically is a non-event.

“There is no crisis in Zimbabwe; if there is a crisis I am sure Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai has full access to President Robert Mugabe,” says Zanu-PF spokesperson Bright Matonga.

Matonga says Tuesday’s cabinet meeting will go ahead with the MDC splinter group led by Arthur Mutambara.

Tsvangirai says he will only reconsider his withdrawal from cabinet and the Council of Ministers when confidence is restored.
