The City of Cape Town said on Wednesday its fight against alcohol and drug abuse had received a major boost with the opening of a specialised clinic in Delft.

The city is now home to three such facilities, which offer the internationally acclaimed “matrix model’ of treatment.

The treatment enables addicts and their families to access intensive 12-week outpatient treatment.

The other two clinics are situated in Tafelsig and Tableview.

Mayoral Committee Member for Social Development Grant Pascoe said the clinics offered hope to all those affected by substance abuse.

“What we have discovered is that across the city drugs impacts communities equally whether it’s Bishops Court, Bishop Lavis, Tafelsig or Tableview; we all feel the effects of drug misuse," said Pascoe.
