A matric learner who underwent facial surgery after an accident on Monday has been discharged from hospital.

Oude Molen learner Monique Odendaa was injured, while two other matriculants died, when the car they travelling in hit a pavement.

Principal Tony Marshall told Eyewitness News they were relieved that she was now recovering.

“Monique was released from hospital last night, and is at home recovering, and she needs to return for further treatment and the most important thing is that she’s been released,” said Marshall.

Meanwhile, the principal of Bellville Technical High School has paid tribute to one of their matriculants, who died in a separate car crash earlier this week.

Jeandre Burmeister was killed in Kenridge. A grade nine learner who was also involved is still in a coma

Principal Leon Roelofse said that Jeandre would not be forgotten.

“We’re not going to remove Jeandre’s table from the exam room, but we’re going to put a flower there just to remind the pupils of her,” said Roelofse.
