The wives of the so-called Baghdad Four have accused their husband’s former employers of deserting them.
Johann Enslin, Hardus Greeff, Callie Scheepers and André Durandt were abducted outside the Iraqi capital in December 2006. Their whereabouts remain unknown 1075 days later.
They were working for security company Safenet at the time of their disappearance.
Enslin’s wife Marie on Thursday said Safenet withdrew all its support, including financial aid, when she and the other women went public for the first time.
"We started speaking to the media (Al Jazeera and CNN) at the end of October, beginning of November of 2007 and in December we did not get paid."
Enslin said the company advised them to have their husbands declared dead and move on with their lives, something she said they simply cannot do.
The four women have made an impassioned plea to President Jacob Zuma to intervene and help them find out the truth.
