The Labour Department will implement a seven percent salary increase for domestic workers from next month.
Workers earning minimum wage will receive the increase in time for the festive season.
Helpers employed for more than 27 hours a week will get an increase of 52 cents per hour.
“The reason for the increase is that we provide an increase matching the cost of living increases like any other worker, particularly it also tries to improve the livelihoods of domestic workers so that we address problems like poverty and unemployment,” said the department’s Virgil Seafield.
