Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan said on Thursday South Africa’s recovery from the recession would not be quick.
He added it was going to take some time for more jobs to be created.
It comes after GDP figures released this week showed the recession was over.
Gordhan said the pace of the recovery would be frustrating.
“We need to understand that this recovery is not going to be a fast one, that job creation and re-absorption of labour around the world and in South Africa will be slower than we would like it to be,” he explained.
He hinted at possible changes to economic policy.
“Business, labour and government and ordinary South Africans as well, need to talk about what we need to do differently, in order that we get, not just sustainable growth, but also growth at a new level,” he said.
Gordhan said we needed to look at creating green jobs and harnessing our wind and solar power.
