Local fans flocked to cinemas across the country this week to see sneak previews of the next instalment in the Twilight saga.

New Moon officially opens at cinemas on Friday.

Robert Pattinson, who plays Edward Cullen, said New Moon was not just for girls “It’s much more masculine. It’s not a girlie film. I think what Edward goes through is more relatable for guys.”

He said the vampire theme was appealing: “I think most people like to have a secret in their relationship with their boyfriend or girlfriend, it keeps things exciting.”

The next in the series Eclipse is due out next year.
