The identity of a woman who was pulled from the burnt-out wreckage of a bus on Thursday night remains a mystery.

Ten people were killed and scores injured when the bus collided with a truck on Moloto Road, east of Pretoria. Their remains will be taken to the Bronkhorstspruit mortuary next to the police station on Monday.

Rescue workers battled for more than three hours to get the woman out from under several bodies.

The unidentified woman was under heavy sedation on Friday.

Authorities asked anyone missing a relative who could have been on the bus from Pretoria to KwaMahlangu in Mpumalanga on Thursday night to contact Milpark Hospital, where the patient was being treated, or the Cullinan Police Station.

“This lady appears to be about 25 to 35 years of age and we are looking for her family,” said Milpark Hospital’s Linda Pretorius.

Officials were also starting the process of trying to identify the ten people who were burnt beyond recognition.

Gauteng Community Safety MEC Khabisi Mosunkutu visited the scene on Friday, saying he wanted to gain a better understanding of exactly what happened.

The MEC also met officials from bus company Putco.
