The Animal Anti Cruelty League on Monday called for specialised courts to deal with animal abuse cases.

On Thursday evening, a 69-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly killing her three dogs.

SPCA inspectors found two fox terriers at the woman’s home that had apparently been strangled to death.

A mutilated Pomeranian was rushed to a vet but had to be put down.

The woman was set to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges relating to the Animals Protection Act.

AACL General Manager, Rene Southwood told Eyewitness News too often justice was hard to come by in animal abuse cases.

“It is very difficult to get anything into court because the cases are just thrown out so easily; because the courts are overworked and animals just do not come into the picture," said South wood.
