It was set to be an emotional day for Aids workers at Nkosi’s Haven Village as the premises will be officially opened on World Aids Day, on Tuesday.

The project was inspired by young Nkosi Johnson who died nine years ago of an Aids related disease.

Nkosi’s Haven, a residential care centre for destitute HIV positive mothers and their children, was to be officially opened by Constitutional Court Judge Edwin Cameron.

The judge made his HIV-positive status known several years.

Johnson’s mother, Gail, said the village was Nkosi’s brainchild.

“I said to him should we start something for mom’s and kids and he said yes,” said Gail.

Some of the children at the village were thrilled about their new home.

“It is a wonderful and nice place. I love to live here.”

The village will supplement the current haven in Berea on the outskirts of Johannesburg.
