SPCA wants to stop killing of animals in cultural rituals

With the controversial bull killing ceremony over the SPCA said on Monday it wants to put an end to the killing of animals in cultural rituals completely.

The Pietermaritzburg High Court ruled last Friday the ceremony could go ahead.

The Ukweshwama Festival includes a ritual in which young men use their bare hands to kill a bull.

Zulu’s believe this helps restore the king’s power.

The SPCA said while all cultures need to be respected but so do animals.
