The Eden District Municipality said Monday’s downpours in some parts of the Southern Cape offered respite to the drought-stricken region.
Water restrictions remained in place in several towns including George.
Southern Cape Disaster Management’s Gerhard Otto said the rain boosted low dam levels by about one percent.
“We have received in the vicinity of round about 30 to 40mm, ranging from 40 to 43 in the George area and 30 in the Bitou area. Although this sounds like good rain, the ground is still very dry and not a lot of this run off reached our dams,” said Otto.
