Home Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma said last weekend’s final draw for the FIFA World Cup final showed South Africa was ready to host the premier event.
She said her department was proud to have facilitated the smooth entry of the FIFA family and representatives of the 32 teams that participated in the draw.
Home Affairs will be the face of South Africa to the hundreds of thousands of fans coming to the World Cup.
She said her department was aware of the weighty responsibility but it was ready.
“The 2010 World Cup draw served as confirmation of South Africa’s readiness to host the spectacular and are indeed ready to receive the world,” she said.
Liaison officers are in competing countries compiling lists of undesirables.
They will be weeded out early from South Africa, allowing the overwhelming majority of legitimate fans to enter the country more quickly and enjoy the final safely.
