Tourism Minister Marthinus van Schalkwyk announced on Tuesday South Africa had more than enough accommodation for next year’s World Cup.

The minister said over 200 000 rooms would be available countrywide.

He said in order to dispel all doubts they released figures of exactly how many rooms were available for visitors.

Van Schalkwyk said this translated to about 405 000 beds and would be more than enough to cater for the almost 500 000 visitors expected to attend the event.

A booking portal was also established where accommodation service providers would register their rooms.

A national contact centre will also be operational to field any queries from international travellers.
