The Home Affairs Department said on Tuesday it was making headway in fighting corruption within its ranks and Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma said it was also delivering more secure documents to the public.
Twenty eight Home Affairs officials were suspended in November for fraudulent activities.
Dlamini-Zuma said most them would be prosecuted by the new department she was running.
She said she would be talking to countries like Britain that introduced visa restrictions against South Africans because of the insecurity of their identity documents and passports.
This will have to wait until some important details like an improved registration of births are finally in place.
