A local
supermarket has pitched in to help an estimated 400 people displaced by a fire
in Phillipi in Cape Town.
The blaze
tore through their camp early yesterday, destroying 100 shacks.
Disaster
Management Officials handed out food parcels and building material following
the fire.
“We are
providing people with building material in order for them to re-erect the
structure… to provide them their houses back again,” said Disaster Management
spokesperson Wilfred Solomons Johannes.
He added
the supermarket is providing the effected people with hot meals, clothing and
blankets.
