ACSA says it will not install full body scanners

The Airports Company South Africa said it will not be installing full body scanners at any of its airports.

It was reacting to a 25-year-old Nigerian man’s foiled terror attack on a Detroit-bound plane last month.

ACSA said at this stage potential threats have been calculated and based on its findings there is no need for additional measures.

Spokesperson Nicky Knapp said passengers have no reason not to feel safe.

“Their safety and security is our utmost priority. When they move through our airports they can expect the exact same procedures, vigilance and commitment to their safety and security as we have demonstrated last week, last month and even last year,” she said.
