Eskom won’t take Maroga’s legal action lightly

Eskom says it will oppose ousted CEO Jacob Maroga’s lawsuit but will say little else about his R85 million rand claim.

Maroga has filed a civil claim in the South Gauteng High Court demanding reasonable damages or reinstatement as CEO.

He and former Eskom chairperson Bobby Godsell left Eskom amid controversy in November last year.

Eskom’s spokespeople are not answering their phones and have said nothing publicly about Maroga’s claim.

The parastatal’s media desk will only confirm that the power giant will be opposing the lawsuit.

Public Enterprises Minister Barbara Hogan’s office has also been quiet on the issue.

Papers filed in the high court shed light on the lavish lifestyle the former CEO was enjoying and provide details of his pay package and benefits.

Crucially, they also reveal Maroga’s version of just what was going on during that confusing period in November when both he and Godsell left their jobs.
