Johannesburg Roads Agency Chairman Khehle Shubane said on Thursday he would not speak to the media about his statement that his organisation was not given enough money to fix potholes and resurface the city’s roads properly.
He made the comments on Tuesday before Johannesburg Mayor Amos Masondo claimed the JRA did have a budget.
Shubane warned the city’s roads would get worse unless he was given more money.
The DA’s Johannesburg Transport Councillor Nico de Jager said, “I think the poor man’s been asked not to make any more comments.”
But anger seemed to spread after KwaZulu-Natal boss Charles Hlabisa said people should be grateful for having any roads at all.
A KZN woman is suing authorities after losing her arm in an accident caused by a pothole on a badly surfaced road, just metres away from a hardly used brand new road leading to the residence of Transport Minister S’bu Ndebele.
