The Tshwane University of Technology’s Soshanguve Campus was on Saturday evening quieter than usual.
The facility was shut and all students left the property, following violent protests there.
TUT students have been demonstrating over what they called poor service.
Earlier this week the institution’s management ordered that all students must leave the premises – about 400 students refused but they were forcibly evicted by police on Saturday afternoon.
TUT’s Gilbert Mokwatedi cited incidents of lawlessness, hooliganism as well as alcohol and drug abuse as some of the reasons for the campus’ closure.
“The campus has been cleared of all students, it is now locked. The security team is still on the ground with police to assess the situation. Unfortunately I am not in a position to say when the campus will be reopened”, said Mokwatedi
