Selebi trial resumes

Former police chief Jackie Selebi and his erstwhile friend Glenn Agliotti will appear in the dock in the same courtroom and before the same judge on Monday morning, in two separate trials.

The Brett Kebble murder trial, in which Agliotti is accused of arranging the mining tycoon’s assisted suicide, is due to be moved to another judge for witnesses to be led.

Selebi’s corruption trial will be postponed so prosecutors can re-subpoena witnesses, following Friday’s Supreme Court of Appeal ruling which removed a major hurdle holding up the case.

Judge Meyer Joffe cannot hear the case against Agliotti because he is yet to make a credibility finding on his testimony in the Selebi matter.

Prosecutors were adamant they were bringing witnesses to court on Monday, thought to be Clinton Nassif and Mikey Schultz.

In a trial which has already dragged on for three years, more delays would not be a surprise.
