ANC Youth League President Julius Malema on Monday said they will influence decision-making processes to assure the nationalisation of mines in the country becomes a reality.

Malema was speaking at the end of the League’s four-day lekgotla in Muldersdrift on the West Rand.

Malema said the lekgotla adopted a discussion document stating how mines in the country will be nationalised.

This includes the establishment of a mining company by the state, the adoption of an expropriation model and the amendment of the Minerals and Petroleum Resources Development Act.

If amended, corporations applying for mining should partner with the National Mining Company, where the state owns not less than 60 percent of the shares.

Malema is confident these processes will see itself through saying, “Leadership of the youth league is more than convinced that the nationalisation of mines will happen in our lifetime.“

The youth league said it will engage with alliance partners, businesses and the Chamber of Mines in the programme towards consolidation.
