Crude oil price blamed for petrol hike
JP du Plessis | 2010/02/03 06:28:41 AM

The Energy Department says South Africans who have woken up to an 18 cents-a-litre petrol increase on Wednesday morning, can blame international crude oil prices.

Increasing per-barrel costs over the past month have caused an unexpected hike in fuel prices.

The department’s Bheki Khumalo says the new prices, including a nominal increase in the cost of illuminating paraffin, came into effect shortly after midnight.
