Dramatic evidence expected in the Kebble case

Details of the night Brett Kebble was killed in a hail of bullets were expected to emerge in court on Wednesday, if the trial gets off the ground.

The mining magnate’s murder trial is due to begin in the South Gauteng High Court on Wednesday but a postponement cannot be ruled out.

Kebble was murdered in September 2005 in what was claimed to have been an assisted suicide.

Details about the quiet spring night three hired hit-men travelled in a citi golf through suburban Melrose and boxer Mikey Schultz allegedly pointed a gun at Kebble, only for it to jam, were expected to emerge in court.

Witnesses were also likely to recount how the mining magnate was desperate to die, and how he cried and prayed in the days before he was shot.

Both the prosecution and the defence said they were ready for the trial to start but it is understood a postponement was a real possibility.

Prosecutors may want to finalise the Jackie Selebi trial before getting involved in a case which could cast serious doubt on the credibility of their key witness.
