Is Eskom load-shedding? Utility says no
Rahima Essop | 2010/02/03 09:26:50 AM

Eskom on Wednesday denied the utility has begun enforced power cuts but warned the electricity network was tight.

The Independent Power Producers’ Association said load-shedding was underway because of a high demand for electricity.

“Some large users last week experienced load-shedding,” said the association’s Doug Kuni.

In January 2008, the country was hit by rolling blackouts because of low coal stockpiles.

At the time Eskom did not have the capacity to meet demand.

Eskom’s Andrew Etzinger said since then there had not been load-shedding

“We have not initiated load-shedding but our system is tight,” said Etzinger.
