Potholes are again obstructing traffic, causing rush-hour headaches in and around Johannesburg.
Heavy rains cause erosion along many of the cities major highways.
The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) pledged to attend to the problems.
There is evidence of some repairs of major potholes on Rivonia Road in Sandton which were reported at the beginning of the year but after recent rains, these are starting to form again.
Questions were raised about whether they were being repaired properly.
The JRA said it faced an uphill battle against soil erosion during the wet season.
The agency said it would attend to potholes as they were reported but emphasised it needed dry weather to do this because repairs could not set properly in overcast conditions and washed away.
Opposition parties within the metro council raised questions about whether the City of Johannesburg had given the agency enough money to stay on top of the problem.
