National Police Commissioner Bheki Cele said on Thursday the world policing body Interpol would be providing assistance during the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
An Interpol office will be set up for the period leading to the World Cup and its duration.
Interpol authorities will provide technological assistance such as passport control mobile units to detect fake passport and any other discrepancies.
Cele said they hoped to channel Interpol’s available resources into ensuring a safe World Cup.
“We will send people to be trained, especially when it comes to illegal and forged travel documents. We will be using these expertise in airports and hotels,” said Cele.
