Maroga waits on Eskom’s reply to R85m claim

Power parastatal Eskom will not file papers on Monday in response to ousted CEO Jacob Maroga’s multi-million rand damages claim, as its lawyers are still working on the documents.

Maroga wants R85 million from Eskom for reasonable damages, unless he is reinstated as chief executive officer.

It is unclear at this stage when the documents will be lodged at the South Gauteng High Court and how this lapse will affect Maroga’s application.

Eskom is being cautious about this legal challenge and is treating it as a concern for the board of directors, making very little information available.

Details of Maroga’s spat with Public Enterprises Minister Barbara Hogan and former chairman Bobby Godsell are likely to be fully aired in the legal wrangle, and Eskom will be hoping to minimise the damage.

Maroga and Godsell both left the power utility after a spat over leadership issues.
