The African National Congress’s Winnie Madikizela-Mandela promised on Monday to take the grievances of police reservists to government.

Around 400 reservists marched and demonstrated in Beyers Naude Square on Monday afternoon, demanding to be incorporated into the police service.

Protesters scattered in all directions when police opened fire on them with rubber bullets after they refused to disperse.

Many protesters were bleeding when they were loaded into the back of a police van.

“Some members of the reservists have been shot,” said an angry protestor.

Madikizela-Mandela assured them she would attempt to help them.

“I want to ask you to entrust me with this process,” she said.

It is understood up to 80 protesters were arrested during the chaos.
