State prosecutors want the man accused of threatening to rob and kill tourists during the 2010 FIFA World Cup to go for psychiatric evaluation.

Evans Mdebuka Radebe was arrested last month after appearing on etv and now faces a charge of intimidation.

The state said they had received evidence that Radebe is schizophrenic.

Radebe appeared on an enews special report in January. During the piece he can be seen cocking a gun and threatening violence during the soccer spectacle.

An application will be brought to the court on Thursday to send Radebe for psychiatric observation.

Radebe was expected to apply for bail on Wednesday, but his public defender was not available.
