Arts and Culture Minister Lulu Xingwana on Thursday denied storming out of an art exhibition because it showed lesbian images.

It was reported earlier this week she was disgusted by the artworks and claimed they went against nation building and cohesion.

Several organisations, including the Freedom of Expression Institute have called on her to apologise.

Her spokesperson Lisa Combrink said she was only upset because she felt children may see the art.

“It had nothing to do with the fact that some of the artwork displayed lesbians. When she entered the exhibition she saw these pictures of naked bodies in images,” she said.
