Minister of Women, Children and Persons with Disabilities Noluthando Mayende-Sibiya said on Thursday she would fight the launch of a DSTV pornography channel.
Multichoice recently said it had been inundated with requests from viewers for adult content on its DSTV platform.
Mayende-Sibiya is currently in New York leading a South African delegation to the United Nations on the 15 year global review of the Beijing Declaration.
That declaration focuses on women and the media.
The minister said the rights of children and women must be the primary consideration in the decision to launch a pornography channel.
“We have to try by all means to ensure that we reduce exposure for children to pornographic material,” she said.
