DA warns Home Affairs to pay up

The Democratic Alliance has pointed out the Home Affairs Department’s turnaround strategy, aimed at tackling shortcomings and fraud, appears to be failing.

The Government Printing Works has revealed it is owed R126 million by the department for printing passports.

The debt dates back to April 2009.

The DA warned if payment was not made soon the printing works would not be able to continue printing passports.

“The minister should really urgently look into this matter and simply pay them. We have a situation where a lot of government department’s don’t pay their debt in time and this needs to be resolved,” said the party’s Juanita Terblanche.
