Zuma’s gifts to be laid bare

President Jacob Zuma’s lawyers say he has now submitted a list of financial interests to the secretary of cabinet.

It emerged over the weekend that Zuma had not complied with the law, saying the president had to comply with the Executive Ethics Code.

The president’s lawyers said the list provided by him to the cabinet secretary contains any gifts, benefits or financial interests held or received by him and his family members.

"The information which has been listed deals with the president’s assets and liabilities," said his attorney Michael Hulley.

Hulley said none of the gifts were of extraordinary monetary value.

He also said the president doid not hold any directorship, membership or shareholding in any company.

LIST OF GIFTS TO BE MADE PUBLIC

This move could take some pressure off the Presidency, after opposition parties said Zuma had failed to comply with a law he had signed while he was deputy president.

Hulley said it also means the public should get to see part of the document outlining Zuma’s financial interests and gifts he has received.

But he has strongly denied that Zuma was hiding anything by the delay in making the declaration.
