As National Police Commissioner General Bheki Cele was announcing 15 police had been arrested for corruption across the country, three Tshwane Metro police officers found themselves behind bars for doing the same.

It is alleged the trio and two civilian accomplices confiscated stock from a shop during a bogus raid on Thursday morning.

Apparently they later called the shop owner and proposed that they meet so he could buy back his goods.

The three Metro police officers allegedly proposed the shop owner hand over R12 000 for his R80 000 worth of stock taken earlier in the day.

But he reported the matter to the Sinoville police who arrested the suspects when they arrived at the Kollonade McDonalds to make the deal.

The Tshwane Metro police’s Mel Vosloo said on Friday they are looking into the matter.

“Everything is still under investigation. Once we’ve received all the reports from SAPS we’ll be able to make a decision on the matter. But we can confirm that the arrest took place,” he said.

The five men will appear in court on Monday.
