Fire fighters were battling a large fire outside a factory in Springs on the East Rand Friday night.

Around 2 000 tonnes of paper outside a Mondi paper factory had been destroyed in the blaze.

No one had been injured and the cause of the fire is not known.

Ekurhuleni Emergency Services’ Rogers Mamaila says it could take all night to extinguish the fire.

“We have about 25 fire fighters on scene and 6 fire engines, and we are currently still dealing with trying to prevent the fire from spreading from outside to the factory building itself. [Right now], the fire is under control, but the fire fighting operations still continue,” said Mamaila.
